Shuman's Bakery Moves Online to Sell Its Famous Jelly Cake

After closing shop in 2004, the 127-year-old bakery returns online.

Alexandria's Shuman's Bakery, which shuttered in 2004, finds new life online with sales of its famous jelly cake.

Shuman’s, founded in 1876 and passed down from Louis to Aubra to Lonnie Marchant and his wife, Teddy, moved from Fairfax Street to King Street to Washington Street, reports the Washington Post.

The Marchants retired in March 2004, closing the 128-year-old business, but younger relatives recently started a Facebook page, gained supporters and began selling the jelly cakes via shumansbakery.com.
