Wanted: Interim ACPS Superintendent

Alexandria City Public Schools superintendent abruptly asked for an early retirement late last month, just days before the majority of the city’s public school students returned to their classrooms.
On Sept. 9, ACPS posted in its career section that it seeks an interim superintendent for about six months, when a permanent appointment is expected.

The ACPS Position Description reads: “The interim Superintendent will report to and work in partnership with the School Board to carry out the vision and strategic goals of the Division to ensure the success of students, employees, and the overall school community. The successful candidate will perform complex professional and administrative work directing and providing leadership for all programs, operations and activities.”
