What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2025 In Alexandria
The Christmas holiday will result in multi-day closures for some services and other adjustments.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Families will get a holiday break from work and school to celebrate the Christmas holiday.
This year, Christmas falls on Thursday, Dec. 25. In Alexandria, schools are closed for an extended break. Local government offices and some other services will be closed for several days.
Here are all the openings and closings to know around Alexandria for Christmas Eve on Dec. 24 and Christmas Day on Dec. 25.

City of Alexandria government offices: Closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Alexandria City Public Schools: Closed from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2.

ABC Stores: Virginia ABC stores will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.
Animal Welfare League of Alexandria: Open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25. For animal emergencies or wildlife concerns, call 703-746-4444.
Courts: The Alexandria General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Court Service Unit, Circuit Court and the Clerk of Circuit Court are closed on Dec. 24 to 26.
DASH Bus: DASH will operate on a weekend schedule on Dec. 25. Lines 102, 103, and 104 will not run. There are no changes on Dec. 24 and 26. The King Street Trolley runs daily, every 15 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Department of Motor Vehicles: Virginia DMV locations will close at noon on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25 and 26.
Health department: The Alexandria Health Department and the Flora Krause Casey Health Center, close at noon on Dec. 24, and the Teen Wellness Center will be closed all day. All facilities will be closed on Dec. 25 and 26.
Historic Alexandria facilities: The Alexandria Archaeology Museum and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 24 and closed on Dec. 25. The Alexandria Archaeology Museum, Gadsby’s Tavern Museum and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will be open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 26.
Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the Child Protective Services Hotline at 703-746-5800; the Domestic Violence Hotline at 703-746-4911; the Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the Adult Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5778 or 988; and the Sexual Assault Hotline at 703-683-7273.
Ice & Lights Winter Village at Cameron Run Region Park: Open daily through Dec. 30, and ice skating continues on select days through February.
Impound lot: Closed on Dec. 24 and 25. The city’s impound lot is closed on all weekends and observed city holidays. Fees accrue on Saturday and Sunday, but not on holidays.
Libraries: Alexandria Library locations will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Metro: Dec. 24 will have a regular weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight. Dec. 25 will bring a reduced Sunday service schedule to Metrorail from 6 a.m. to midnight.
Parking: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts on Dec. 24 and 25.
Post offices: Closed on Dec. 25.
Recreation, nature and art centers: Recreation centers are closed on Dec. 24 and 25. The Torpedo Factory Art Center is closed on Dec. 25.
Trash and recycling: Collections will follow the normal collection service schedule on Dec. 24. On Dec. 25, trash, recycling, yard waste, and curbside food waste collections will be delayed one day. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center will open as scheduled on Dec. 26. If you have a private trash collector, check with them for any schedule changes.
Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station and the I-95 Landfill Complex will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.
Virginia Railway Express: VRE will run on an S schedule on Dec. 24 and not run on Dec. 25 and 26.
