What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2024 In Alexandria
The Christmas holiday will result in closures for one or more days and other service adjustments.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Families will get a holiday break from work and school to celebrate winter holidays like Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwaanza.
This year, Christmas falls on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and may result in holiday closures and schedule changes over several days. In Alexandria, schools are closed for an extended break. Local government offices and some other services will be closed for several days.
Here are all the openings and closings to know around Alexandria for Christmas Eve on Dec. 24 and Christmas Day on Dec. 25.

City of Alexandria government offices: Closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Alexandria City Public Schools: Closed from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3.

ABC Stores: Virginia ABC stores will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.
Animal Welfare League of Alexandria: Open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with adoptions beginning at noon on Dec. 24. Closed on Dec. 25. For animal emergency or wildlife concerns, call 703-746-4444.
Courts: All Alexandria courts and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia are closed Dec. 24 to 26.
DASH Bus: DASH Bus will have normal operations on Dec. 24 and operate on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 25. Alexandria Transit Company administrative offices will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25. The free King Street Trolley operates from King Street Metro to City Hall/Market Square with service every 15 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day.
Department of Motor Vehicles: Virginia DMV locations will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Health department: The Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and the Teen Wellness Center at Alexandria City High School will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Historic Alexandria facilities: Fort Ward Museum and Historic Site and The Alexandria History Museum at the Lyceum will be closed on Dec. 24. All city museums are closed on Dec. 25. On Dec. 26, the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum are closed.
Hotlines: All emergency hotlines operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including the Child Protective Services Hotline at 703-746-5800; the Domestic Violence Hotline at 703-746-4911; the Emergency Mental Health Services or substance use crisis hotline at 703-746-3401; the Adult Protective Services hotline at 703-746-5778 or 988; and the Sexual Assault Hotline at 703-683-7273.
Ice & Lights: The Winter Village: Open daily, including holidays, through Jan. 5.
Impound lot: Closed on Dec. 24 and 25. Fees will continue to accrue on Saturday and Sunday, but not on holidays.
Libraries: Alexandria libraries will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Metro: On Dec. 20 to 26, Farragut West, McPherson Square, and the lower level (Blue, Orange, Silver service) at Metro Center will be closed. On Dec. 27 to 30, Farragut West, McPherson Square; lower level (Blue, Orange, Silver service) at Metro Center, Federal Triangle, and Smithsonian; and the lower level of L'Enfant Plaza (Blue, Orange, Silver service) will be closed. Free shuttle buses will serve closed stations. Dec. 24 will have a regular weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight. Dec. 25 will bring a reduced Sunday service schedule to Metrorail from 7 a.m. to midnight.
Parking: On Dec. 24 and 25, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces and does not permit parking in any normally prohibited location. Temporary no-parking signs will be enforced.
Post offices: Closed on Dec. 25.
Recreation, nature and art centers: All recreation, nature and art centers will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25. The Torpedo Factory Art Center is closed on Dec. 25.
Trash and recycling: Residential refuse, recycling, yard waste, and curbside food waste will be delayed by one day during the week of Dec. 23. The Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Center will be open on Dec. 23 and closed on Dec. 25. For private trash collection services schedule changes, contact your hauler.
Virginia Railway Express: There is no VRE service on Dec. 24 and 25. Trains will run on an S schedule on the weekdays between Christmas (Dec. 25) and New Year's Eve (Dec. 31).
