Sunrise Valley Elementary Student Kellie McRea was one of three Fairfax County Public Schools students to be recognized as American Automobile Association Outstanding Patrol of the Year.
McCrea, along with Alessa Ogork of Franconia Elementary School, and Rachel Newman of Marshall Road Elementary School, were recognized for their leadership, promptness, neatness, industriousness, and sound academics. They will receive a plaque and $150 U.S. Savings Bond.
Hunter Hamilton of Greenbriar East Elementary School was nominated for the AAA School Safety Patrol Lifesaving Award for saving the life of another person while on duty. On Dec. 11, 2012, Hamilton reacted quickly when he saw a kindergarten student running through a group of students toward an intersection. Hamilton pulled the child to safety, preventing him from stepping into the path of oncoming traffic.
