Herndon Reston Softball Glory Takes Third in Tourney
U12 girls had strong showing despite losing players to illness.

Herndon Reston Youth Softball’s 12U Glory travel team recently place third in the USSSA Loudoun Firecracker NIT.
Despite losing two players to illness, the Glory worked together to give a strong performance during the day’s pool play. They overtook both the Sterling Spirit (12-1) and the Leesburg Freedom (8-3), losing only to the tournament’s eventual champions, the Leesburg Revolution (8-7).
The Glory also started strong during single-elimination play. They took an early lead over the West Virginia Kryptonite, which turned into a 5-5 tie by the top of the sixth inning. The team’s hard work necessitated an exciting International Tie-Breaker finale. Each team began their offensive half-inning with a runner on second base to induce a break in the stalemate.
As the Away team, the 12U Glory batted first—and scored a whopping seven runs to bring the score to 12-7. They bore down on the Kryptonite in the bottom of the sixth, allowing just one run for the win and to enter the tournament semifinal.
In the end, the Glory fell 13-5 to the first-place Leesburg Revolution in the semifinal round. They tied for third place of 15 teams in the tournament.
