KinderCare Gets a Visit From The Troops

Members of the U.S. Navy stopped by to visit students at KinderCare on Isaac Newton Square on Thursday.

 Lieutenant Commander Kibwe Hampden and Religious Programs Specialist Jason Boykin said hello to the infants, played on the playground with the toddlers, and read books to both the preschool and pre-kindergarten classes.  

And after answering questions as such as, “Have you ever jumped out of an airplane?” and “What was Afghanistan like?”, the sailors led the school-agers through a series of drills, to give them a brief glimpse of military life.  Afterwards, LCDRHampden and RP1 Boykin ate lunch with the children.

"Visits from the military are a great opportunity for the children to speak with and learn more about the men and women who fight to keep their families and homes safe,” says Sol Livingston, Center Director.

The visit was one of many activities that took place during KinderCare’s second annual Honor Our Military week.  The children also sold popcorn to help raise money for Homes For Our Troops, a nonprofit organization that helps to build homes for severely injured veterans.
