McNair Farms Community Parking District Proposed to Ban Boat Parking on Public Roads
Offer your concerns about a parking district by Sept. 10. I want to hear from you.

As a Fairfax County Supervisor, I've heard from many residents and homeowners association representatives in the McNair Farms area in Herndon who've voiced concerns about the many boats parked — and stored — on the public streets in their neighborhoods.
To address these concerns, I plan to create a Community Parking District this area which I announced at a very well attended community meeting this week.
Offer Your Concerns by Sept. 10
While residents overwhelmingly supported the proposal at the meeting, I'm seeking public input from others who didn’t attend. For residents who have concerns about creating this new parking district, contact my office by email or call 703-478-0236, TTY 711 by Sept. 10.

Why a Ban on Boat Parking Is Needed
The parked boats cause problems for McNair Farms-area residents, including:
- Parking problems for homeowners who live there
- Safety concerns for the many school children trying to cross the streets with boats blocking their view
- Challenges for residents to safely pull out of their neighborhoods onto main roads
- Difficulties for people accessing bus stops
Proposed McNair Parking District Boundaries
The new parking district would roughly encompass the roads to the east of Monroe Street, south of Sunrise Valley Drive, west of Centreville Road and north of McLearen Road. The district would expand the existing large area parking district that’s already in place for much of Reston.

Parking District Restrictions
A community parking district would prevent a variety of large vehicles from parking on public roads, including:
- Boats
- Boat trailers
- Motor homes/RVs
- Campers
The restrictions would not apply to private streets, however.
Next Steps
I plan bring the proposed parking district forward to the Board of Supervisors for approval at a meeting later this year, possibly as soon as November.
