New Reston Hotel Approved By Board Of Supervisors

RESTON, VA -- The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has approved a plan to build a five-story, 138-room hotel at Lake Fairfax Business Park.

The Board said in a statement that the hotel was approved May 15 and it will replace much of the surface parking lot at 1741 Business Center Drive, a 4.82-acre property located about a mile northeast from the Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station.

About 282 parking spaces will remain for the office building located on that property that serves as the headquarters for Thompson Hospitality, which is behind the hotel.

"The hotel will accommodate up to 154 guests and 40 employees. It will offer a mix of 122 rooms with king-size beds and 16 rooms with queen-size beds," reads the Board's statement. "The plans also call for an approximately 6,500-square-foot courtyard that will serve hotel guests and office workers. This outdoor space will include features like a plaza, seating, pergola and grilling stations. The courtyard will provide space for a future, 12-dock Capital Bikeshare station. Textured paving will connect the courtyard to Thompson’s office building."

The hotel's main entrance will face Business Center Drive, and new sidewalks will be constructed to serve the area.

"The project will help create the local street grid planned for this area in Reston," the statement reads. "Along the south side of its property, Thompson will dedicate land for a new street that is ultimately planned to connect Michael Faraday Drive with Business Center Drive."

Thompson Hospitality has pledged to create a paid internship program for at least two high school students in Reston, and the company will also make financial contributions for future roads and athletic fields in Reston, the statement adds.

Thompson Hospitality is known for its retail food and facilities management rather than for hotels. The company manages American Tap Room in Reston and Hen Quarter in D.C., along with eateries in New York, Austin, and elsewhere.
