Powerball Prize Climbs to $400 Million
The lottery's next drawing is slated for Wednesday, and Virginia has a recent streak of lucky winners. Will the next one be you?

No one won Saturday's Powerball drawing, so the money has rolled over to create the third-largest Powerball jackpot- and the fourth-largest lottery prize - ever. The Powerball prize is estimated to be at about $400 million, Powerball officials said.
In May, 84-year-old Gloria Mackenzie, of Zephyrhills, Fla., claimed the biggest Powerball prize of all time, a $590.5 million windfall.
Powerball tickets doubled in price to $2 in January 2012 as part of a plan to help jackpots grow bigger and faster.
If one person wins Wednesday's jackpot, they could would collect $230.3 million before taxes. Think you'll be a winner? The odds of matching all six numbers remains 1 in 175.2 million.
Powerball is played in 43 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Virginia Lottery is one of 45 lotteries nationwide that participate in the Powerball drawing; Virginia joined the game three years ago.

The jackpot is won by matching all five white balls in any order, and picking the red Powerball number. Jackpot winners can either have their winnings paid out over 29 years in 30 payments or a lump sum payment.
