Public Hearing Scheduled for Huge New Condo Complex in Reston

The proposal to build a 20-story condo complex in Reston will be put before the public this September.

RESTON, VA — Many longtime Reston residents are concerned about the explosion in growth the area is experiencing and what it means for their day-to-day lives, and a major new condo development that Fairfax County is considering would certainly qualify. This September, the Fairfax County Planning Commission will hold a hearing on the proposal to turn the three-story office building at 1801 Old Reston Avenue into a 20-story condo complex, so mark your calendars if you want to weigh in on the project.

The public hearing before the commission is scheduled for Sept. 28 and 8:15 p.m, with a staff report to be published two weeks in advance of the hearing.

The Washington Business Journal reports that Renaissance Centro has filed a development application to replace the office building at 1801 Old Reston Avenue with what would be the first new condos in Reston in more than a decade.

The office building, which is across from Reston Town Center, has been around since the 1980s and spans 29,200 square feet over three floors. The proposed new building would be 20 stories high and have 150 condo units. Renaissance Centro says on their website, however, that there would only be 110 to 120 units.

"1801 Old Reston Avenue will be an infill multi-family project adjacent to Reston Town Center," Renaissance Centro says on their website. "The future building will be within walking distance of the new Silver Line Metro station at Reston Town Center, feature direct access to the W&OD Trail network and all the rich amenities that Reston has to offer. The project will feature well-appointed units and elegant amenity areas."

The website adds that the building would include a grand lobby, a resident lounge, a party room, a fitness center and a rooftop amenity package.
