Reston Association Director Beamer Resigns

Hunters Woods/Dogwood rep had one year left in term.

Reston Assocation Hunters Woods/Dogwood Director Cheryl Beamer announced Friday she is resigning her position effective immediately, citing personal reasons.

Beamer served as the Hunters Woods/Dogwood District director since 2007 and has another year left on her second term.

RA will hold a special board meeting on June 10 to discuss filling the vacated seat.

Beamer’s contributions over the years have been invaluable to the association, said RA President Ken Knueven. Among them:

  • Advocating for public art in Reston.
  • Upkeep and maintenance of trails and natural areas.
  • Proponent for employee benefits and services.

In addition to holding the office of Secretary in 2009, Beamer has served on the association’s Legal Committee, Board Administration Committee, and Planning & Evaluation Committee. She has served as Board Liaison to the Covenants Committee, Pedestrian & Bicycling Advisory Committee, the Transportation Advisory Committee and the Reston Neighborhood Advisory Committee.

"One of the key reasons RA was able to move its headquarters from Isaac Newton Square to the renovated, LEED Silver certified space on Sunrise Valley Drive, is because of Beamer’s efforts," said Knueven. "She led the committee that reviewed the figures, toured facilities and ultimately presented to the board the opportunities for new and improved space for the members and staff."

In other RA news, Friday was the last day of work for CEO Milton Matthews, who resigned because his wife took a job as Rockville's (Md.) city manager, a post that requires residency.

Matthews announced in February that May 31 will be his last day. RA is currently conducting a search for a new CEO. RA Director of Administration, IT and Membership Services, will serve as acting director until a replacement is hired.
