Reston Voters Head To Polls Tuesday For VA's Dual Primary Election
Tuesday's dual primary will be the last chance for Republicans and Democrats to choose which candidates they want on the Nov. 5 ballot.

RESTON, VA — Democratic and Republican voters in Reston will be heading to the polls on Tuesday to cast ballots for candidates running in Virginia's Dual Party Primary, which will have separate ballots for each party.
In the 11th Congressional race, incumbent Gerry Connolly is being challenged by fellow Democrat Ahsan Nasar. Mike Van Meter is the only Republican running in the 11th District race, so will be his party's candidate in November.
There is also a Republican primary on Tuesday for U.S. Senate to determine a candidate who will run against Sen. Tim Kaine (D) and independent Jonathan Hardin in November. The Republican primary for U.S. Senate includes candidates Hung Cao, Eddie Garcia, Jonathan Emord, Chuck Smith and Scott Parkinson.

How To Vote On Election Day
Many Fairfax County voters have already cast ballots in the dual primary either by mail or during the May 3-June 15 early voting period. Tuesday will be voters' last chance to choose who they want representing them on the November ballot.

Polls in Fairfax County will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Anyone who is in line at 7 p.m. will still be able to vote.
The easiest way to register check your registration status is by visiting the Virginia Department of Elections citizens portal. Same-day registration is available to let voters cast a provisional ballot at any precinct in Virginia for the June 18, 2024 for the Democratic and Republican primaries.
Voters who will be 18 by the next general election on Nov. 5, 2024 can register to vote in Tuesday's primary.
Voters should follow the mail-in ballot instructions to return completed ballots. There is a choice to return by mail, a secure drop box with video surveillance outside the Office of Voter Registration & Elections, or at any polling place during voting hours. Mail-in ballots should be returned by 7 p.m. on June 18 or postmarked by June 18.

An acceptable form of ID is required to vote in person. After polls close at 7 p.m. on June 18, preliminary election results will be tallied on the Virginia Department of Elections website.
