SLHS Boys Fall in Soccer Regionals

Woodson tops Seahawks 3-2 in penalty kicks in Northern Region quarterfinal.

South Lakes High School's boys soccer team's stellar season came to an end on Thursday when it lost to Woodson 3-2 on penalty kicks in a Northern Regional quarterfinal game.

The game was tied at 1-1 after regulation. The Seahawks finish the season 16-2. The team, which won the Liberty District title, had not lost since a season-opening defeat by T.C. Williams in March.

The game was scoreless at the half. Jhonny DeSouza scored for South Lakes on a counterattack with 11 minutes left in regulation. Woodson tied it with seven minutes remaining.

In the first overtime, South Lakes had a good chance, but hit the crossbar.

SLHS goalie Huber Leonta, who has several excellent saves during the game, stopped two out of five shots in penalty kicks. But Woodson's goalie stopped three, and the Cavaliers move on to the regional semifinals on Wednesday.
