SLHS Graduation: Class of 2013 Says Farewell

The South Lakes High School Class of 2013 looked toward the future on Friday at the school's commencement exercises. The ceremony was held in the SLHS gym.

Five hundred and thirty students received diplomas. It was the first class to graduate under the leadership of principal Kim Retzer (who is a SLHS grad herself).

"I was simply overwhelmed by the accomplishments of this class," she said.

Some of the Class of 2013 stats:

* 104 IB Diploma Candidates

* 23 students are the first in their family to graduate from high school

* 119 students with a GPA of 4.0 or better

* $15 million in scholarship offers

Stephen Gurley, an accomplished student and volunteer who is headed to the College of William & Mary, was honored with the 2013 Bruce Butler Leadership Award.

Edgeri Hudlin was the class speaker. He sent his fellow students off with a little rap song (See video).
