A recent poll of Fairfax County residents, conducted by the Global Strategy Group and commissioned by Freedom Virginia, found overwhelming opposition – 75% against – to a casino in Tysons. See:

If we drill down into the poll data, we can see remarkable consistency in opinion on this issue across segments of the local population.
The Freedom Virginia poll was a comprehensive statistical survey that gathered information across the county, not only on casino opposition, but also on the key demographic parameters of those surveyed. Freedom Virginia allowed us access to the more detailed tallies (the “cross-tab data”) * of the survey results. This data shows casino opposition/support by segments of the total population, including party identification, age bracket, income level, gender, ethnicity, education level, state senatorial districts, and even union membership status. The detail mirrors closely the overall results, showing consistent strong opposition (percentages opposed shown below in parenthesis) in the following key demographic parameters:
- Party Identification: Democrats (77%), Republicans (73%), and
- Independents/Other (74%).
- Gender: Women (77%), Men (72%)
- Age: 18-29 (80%), 30-44 (73%), 45-64 (71%), 65+ (81%)
- Education Level: No College (68%), Some College (79%)
- Ethnicity: White (77%), People of Color (71%) Asian American Pacific Island
- (82%)
- Income Level: <$75K (64%), $75K-$150K (78%), >$150K (77%)
Even households in which there is a union member oppose a Tysons casino by almost 2 to 1.

The survey also found strong opposition in all state senatorial districts within Fairfax County:
| Senate District No | Senator(s) | Percent Opposed |
| 33/36 34 35/39 37 38 | Caroll Foy, Pekarsky Surovell Marsden, Ebbin Salim Boysko | 73% 62% 78% 81% 82% |
As the table shows, opposition to a Tysons casino is strong across the county, even in the home districts of Senators Scott Surovell and David Marsden, two of the most vocal Tysons casino proponents!

In this age of high polarization, such broad consensus on a contentious issue is extremely rare. One final point: comparing the results of this survey to earlier surveys shows that opposition in the county to a Tysons casino continues to grow. As people have learned more about the Comstock/Clemente attempt to bypass local land use authority and buy votes in Richmond to support the developer’s dream of a Tysons casino, their opposition has intensified. We, the People, don’t want a Tysons casino.
* Contrary to the claims made by Senator Surovell (see: https://www.ffxnow.com/2025/10/15/new-poll-finds-growing-opposition-in-f...), the poll did seek basic voter identification information so that cross-tab data could be calculated.
