You Need to Know: Crescent Development, New Name for Interfaith

News you can use for the week of July 29.

A quick look at the week ahead in Reston:

1. The redevelopment of Lake Anne could take a small step on Tuesday when the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors discuss the proposed interim development agreement between the Board of Supervisors and Lake Anne Development Partners LLC (Republic) for the redevelopment of the Crescent Apartment site.

Last month, the county announced it has selected Republic Land Development to redevelop the 181-unit apartments located near Lake Anne Plaza. Fairfax County purchased Crescent in 2006 to provide affordable housing in the area.

The terms of the interim agreement include a redevelopment plan for Crescent residents. Many Crescent residents are planning to speak at the 4:40 p.m. hearing.
This is not a ruling on the development plans, only the terms of the interim agreement.

2. New name for Reston Interfaith - the nonprofit will be called Cornerstones beginning Thursday. See more details here.

3. The Reston Association has ruled on two ongoing recreation sagas. Read where they stand on paddleboards on Lake Audubon and indoor tennis at Baron Cameron.

4. Registration for Reston Soccer's fall teams is now open! Click here for more info.

5. Save the date and start shopping - Virginia's Back-to-School tax holiday is Friday through Sunday.  During this three-day period, purchases of qualifying school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax.  More details here.
