Virginia Sophomores Bombed With Porn At Career Assembly

High school sophomores were bombed with a pornographic image at a career assembly, and the speaker has been placed on leave by his employer.

CHESTERFIELD, VA — A career assembly at Chesterfield, Virginia, high school didn’t go as planned Monday after a pornographic image momentarily flashed across a large screen. The guest speaker immediately disavowed the image, throwing up his hands and saying “that’s not mine” before he was escorted from the room where the entire Midlothian High School sophomore class had gathered to get career advice, witnesses and school officials said.

The speaker was from outside the school district and works as an X-ray technician for Bon Secours Health System, which said in a statement to WTVR-TV that the employee had been placed on administrative leave pending “a thorough investigation.” The school district said it will do more to screen presentations ahead of time.

The speaker, who hasn’t been named, brought the image to the school on a mobile drive that contained his presentation. School officials didn't say what the image depicted, but said it was of a "pornographic nature." School officials reacted quickly, blacking out the image and escorting the speaker from the room.

The Career Pathways session went on as planned, Midlothian Principal Shawn Abel said in an email to parents.

"Like you, I am very concerned that a distraction caused by an outside speaker would become the focus of an otherwise important conversation with our students,” Abel wrote. “We will redouble our efforts when we coordinate events with outside speakers, including screening the presentations ahead of time."

In its statement, Bon Secours said it is a “faith based organization, and as such we hold our employees to the highest ethical standards.”

“We therefore offer our sincerest apology to the students, faculty, and parents of Midlothian High School for the incident today involving a Bon Secours employee. The incident was accidental, but unacceptable,” the statement read. “We have placed the employee on administrative leave while we conduct a thorough investigation, and will take appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the findings of the investigation. We will have no further comment until the investigation is complete.”
