Liberty Dining Services by Sodexo donates turkeys for the holiday

Liberty University Dining Services by Sodexo, in collaboration with the Lynchburg Sheriff's Office, donated turkeys and fed 120 underprivileged people during the holiday season.

The sheriff's office identified needy families through their partnership with local schools and churches.

Liberty Dining donated 20 turkeys in total, and a local restaurant, RA Bistro, prepared the dinners and served families in a family style sit-down dinner on Thanksgiving Day.

“In Lynchburg, we have been identified as one of the most food insecure regions in Central Virginia so there is certainly a vast need in our area for families and individuals to receive healthy meals,” said Marketing Manager Ryan Wheeler.

The charitable partnership with Liberty Dining, the sheriff's department, and RA Bistro has become an annual tradition in recent years demonstrating commitment to community.

“We are very honored to partner with the Lynchburg's Sheriff's Office year after year for this initiative,” said Sodexo District Manager Duke Davis. “While Sodexo is a global company, we operate on a local level. We're made up of local people here at Liberty University. As much as this community makes up our employee base, we also want to be a strong force in the community, giving back and helping where possible.”

Liberty Dining also donates turkeys to its 500+ employees including student workers who have the option to receive a free turkey or a free meal swipe at any location on campus.

As a continuation of charitable giving, Liberty Dining participates in the fall food drive on campus led by the LU Serve department. LU Serve supports local, domestic, and international engagement opportunities. All food donations collected by LU Serve is matched by Liberty Dining up to 3,000 lbs.
