The Governor’s 2022-23 introduced budget would increase state funding for RCPS by a total of approximately $22.7 million across multiple categories, Chief Financial Officer Kathleen Jackson told the Board during a budget update. This would be a "significant" increase, she said. In terms of city funding, the preliminary estimate shows just under a $2.7 million increase, which will be updated in early February. Mrs. Jackson noted the budget was introduced by Governor Northam, the outgoing governor. Governor-elect Youngkin could make changes, although General Assembly members recently said Governor-elect Youngkin is committed to a strong education budget. With "unprecedented" state funding, Mrs. Jackson said it is also possible proposed funding could further increase. More information will be available as RCPS continues the 2022-23 budget process into the spring. Superintendent’s Reports Chief Academic Officer Archie Freeman presented the Superintendent’s Reports on behalf of Mrs. White. Mr. Freeman provided information about teacher absences due to the pandemic that the Board previously requested. He explained Central Office staff provide support to schools, for both classroom and administrative coverage as needed. He emphasized everyone within RCPS is working together to support one another during these challenging times Public Gifts The Board publicly recognized and thanked the following donors for supporting RCPS:
