The School Board recognized and provided awards to the more than 40 students who achieved perfect SOL test scores in spring 2021, during the School Board meeting. Ms. Eboni Harrington, Roanoke City Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year and the Virginia Region 6 Teacher of the Year, received a resolution in her honor from the Virginia General Assembly, which was presented by Delegate Sam Rasoul. In addition, the School Board presented Ms. Harrington with a plaque in honor of her achievements. RCPS’ Comprehensive Annual Financial Report has been recognized by both the Government Finance Officers Association and the Association of School Business Officials International for excellence in financial reporting. As a result, the Board thanked Chief Financial Officer Kathleen Jackson, the Accounting Department, Communications and Marketing Department, and Print Shop for their work on the report. The Board also thanked Ms. Jackson and the Accounting Department for earning a meritorious budget award from the Association of School Business Officials International. The School Board unanimously approved creating a new governmental fund that will be used solely for capital projects not funded through debt issuance. Ms. Jackson recommended the idea during the Oct. 26 workshop to track and accumulate school-paid capital improvement costs. Debt service will remain in the General Fund in keeping with governmental accounting standards. click here
