- TSA prevented a man with a loaded gun from boarding a plane at the Roanoke-Blacksburg airport on Monday. They found the gun in the man's carry-on items with the X-ray monitor. Police were called, the gun was confiscated, and the gun owner was cited with a weapons charge. The TSA reports this was the eighth loaded handgun found at the airport — the most they've ever seen in a year — and predicts it will find more as holiday traveling begins to pick up. (WSET)
- The Roanoke Ballet Theatre is starting off its season with Dracula this weekend. This performance marks the opening of Roanoke Ballet Theater's 43rd season, hosted at the Jefferson Center. The show is a contemporary dance style inspired by Bram Stoker's famous work, Dracula. There will be two performances preceding Halloween on Monday. (WFIR News Talk Radio)
- Roanoke Catholic students learned about farming with a mobile dairy farm on Monday. Mobile Dairy Classrooms seek to bring the value of dairy and nutrition to schools across Virginia. On Monday, Roanoke Catholic School elementary and high school students learned about farming from Morgan Cole, the mobile dairy classroom instructor, and Honey, a traveling dairy cow who helps bring the process of dairy farming to life.
