Here are the top three stories in Roanoke today:

  1. No students were hurt in a school bus crash yesterday morning. Police were called to 5th Street and Shenandoah Avenue yesterday around about 10:30 a.m. for a crash involving a school bus and a Toyota. Of the seven people on the bus (four children and three adults), just one was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Toyota is currently hospitalized and charges are pending against them, according to Roanoke City Police. Responding personnel also pulled seven dogs from the Toyota and took them to a veterinarian for care. (WDBJ)
  2. Mill Mountain Zoo's "Zoo Boo" will take place this Saturday, Oct. 29. Zoo Boo offers a family-friendly Halloween-themed time at the zoo from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. this Saturday. Enjoy trick-or-treating, costume contests, performances, and “spooktacular” art activities. Zoo admission includes all Zoo Boo activities. (WDBJ)
  3. The name of a man shot by a police officer earlier this month was released yesterday. On Oct. 8, Michael William Thomas was shot in the leg outside his residence after police responded to a 911 call about a man with a gun, according to an affidavit. Yesterday, Rick Garletts, a state police public information officer, said that no charges have been placed yet on Thomas. (Subscription: Roanoke Times)
