The 12th Annual Veterans' Day Parade rolled through downtown Roanoke Saturday morning with more than 40 participants including a flyover by Navy fighters jets, the U.S. Army Reserve Band, and the Boy Scouts of America. Raymond Starr, a veteran of the Vietnam War said, "That’s the reason why we fly the red, white and blue. 3. A home at the 1400 block of Skyview Road in the Fort Lewis (Salem) area of the county caught fire Saturday morning. 4. In the "Duh!" report of the week the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts has issued a report saying the Roanoke area is showing high levels of Influenza Like Illness. This comes after numerous area schools have reported high percentages of students out sick and nearby Craig County even closing school for several days as a result of staff illnesses. The RCAHD said they recommend vaccination as the best tool to prevent the worst effects of illness and that it's not too late. The vaccination takes about two weeks after receiving it to become fully effective. (Botetourt Bee)
