• No charges filed in backyard burn that sparked 112-acre IW forest fire (smithfieldtimes.com) — Rushmere Volunteer Fire Department was among 18 agencies that battled a 112-acre forest fire in Isle of Wight County last month, helping keep nearby homes and businesses safe. Crews from across the region worked together to contain the blaze within fire lines by late afternoon, turning control over to the Virginia Department of Forestry that evening.
