Fire at Konami Restaurant Causes $100K in Damage

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue says blaze was accidental.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue officials say a fire at Konami Japanese Restaurant on Saturday caused $100,000 worth of damage.

Units responded to a commercial structure fire at 8221 Leesburg Pike about 12:40 a.m. Saturday.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the rear of the one-story building.  Firefighters forced entry into the restaurant and conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly extinguished the fire.

Firefighters contained the fire to the kitchen area. However, there was extensive damage to the roof, requiring firefighters to remove a large portion of the fire damaged roof. The restaurant was closed when the fire broke out. There were no injuries.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental and was caused by a microwave oven in the kitchen.
