TYSONS, VA — Fairfax County Police officers took two people into custody and recovered a gun Sunday night at the Tysons Corner Center shopping mall, according to police.

Rumors circulated Sunday night of a possible shooter at the mall. “We can confirm there were NO shots fired at Tysons Corner Center,” Fairfax County Police tweeted Sunday night.

Officers with the Tysons Urban Team took the two people into custody at the mall as part of an investigation into a robbery in Arlington County. The FCPD said that it was working with the Arlington County Police Department on the case and had located the suspects at Tysons Corner Center.

On Monday, the Fairfax County Police Department said one of the people taken into custody was a 16-year-old from Centreville who has been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by a person underage, possession of a concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, and obstruction of justice.

Police at Tysons Corner Center have been on guard since three shots were fired in June, causing a panicked evacuation, FFXnow reported Monday. The suspect in that shooting was indicted in September. The mall was also evacuated in August after a light fixture that shattered was mistaken for gunfire.

On Sunday night, police said they responded to a report that people who were wanted in Arlington had been spotted at the mall, according to the Washington Post.

Police said officers tried to detain three people, but when officers arrived, the suspects ran. The chase may have set off a fire alarm, police said. One of the three suspects was able to get away, the Washington Post reported.
