2.2 Million Ballots Already Cast In VA: See Latest Data
Virginia is heading into Election Day with more than 2 million votes already cast through early in-person and mail-in voting.

VIRGINIA — More than 2.2 million Virginia voters are among nearly 76.5 Americans who have already cast their ballots in Tuesday’s 2024 presidential election, joining their neighbors and fellow citizens who have cast mail-in or early in-person votes.
According to a Monday analysis by NBC News of data from election officials across the country, an estimated 50 percent of early votes in Virginia were cast by Democrats, 39 percent were by Republicans and 11 percent were by people who haven’t declared a party.
While Virginia doesn't register voters by party, the party affiliation is based on modeling by TargetSmart with data from multiple commercial sources.

Not all Virginia residents who requested an early-vote ballot had returned them by Monday. The more than 2.2 million requested ballots represent 50 percent of those requested by Democrats, 38 percent by Republicans and 12 percent by no-party voters.
Early voting in Virginia started on Sept. 20 and ended on Nov. 2. Voters may return their mail-in ballot by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 5 at the local registrar's office, drop box or polling location. Mailed ballots must be postmarked no later than Nov. 5 and received by the local registrar by noon on Nov. 8. Check with your local registrar for options to turn in your ballot by drop box or at polling places.

Polls are open in Virginia from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Voters may confirm their registration status and polling place in the Virginia Department of Elections citizen portal. An acceptable form of ID is required to vote in person in Virginia. For eligible residents not registered, same-day registration allows them to cast a provisional ballot.
The campaigns of both former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, and his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, have pushed early voting to bank votes ahead of Election Day. Of early votes cast nationally, 41 percent have been cast by Democrats, 39 percent by Republicans and 20 percent by no-party voters.
Besides the all-important presidential race, Virginia voters will decide 11 U.S. House races and a U.S. Senate seat currently held by Democrat Tim Kaine on the federal ballot, as well as local races in some localities.
