2 Killed In Capital Beltway Express Lanes Head-On Crash: State Police

State police say a wrong-way vehicle struck another vehicle head on in the Express Lanes.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Two people were killed in a head-on crash involving a vehicle in the wrong direction on the Capital Beltway Express Lanes Sunday, according to Virginia State Police.

Around 2:34 a.m. Sunday, the crash happened on northbound Interstate 495 Express Lanes at the 48-mile marker, which is between the Route 7 and I-66 exits. State police say a 2017 Ford Edge driver was heading south in the northbound-facing lanes and struck a 2004 Jeep Patriot head on.

The Ford driver, Tremayne D. Gross, 24, of Washington, D.C., and the Jeep driver, Meghan Elizabeth N. Mathis, 32, of Westminister, Maryland, died at the scene. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
