Caboose Brewing to Open Second Location, Possible Beer Garden

Pending approval from Fairfax County, the brewery may offer public tastings and a beer garden at its second 6,000-square foot location.

VIENNA, VA -- As Caboose Brewing Company celebrates its one-year anniversary, there's word the popular business serving up "good beer and thoughtful food" will open a second location.

On Sunday, until 4 p.m., Caboose was preparing to celebrate their anniversary at Strawberry Park at Mosaic District, pouring its popular brews Wasser Pils, Citra Wheat and Commonwealth Rye. Several Mosaic eateries were also expected to be on hand.

Mosaic District is also the spot where Caboose Brewing will open their second location, according to an announcement from the company. To be located on the southwest corner of Lee Highway and Eskridge Road, near Mom's Organic Market, Caboose will repurpose a 6,000 square-foot storage facility into a brewery, according to an announcement from the company.

The Vienna-based Caboose opened its first location last summer at 520 Mill St. NE. The business sits right alongside Mile 12 of the Washington and Old Dominion Trail, a perfect stop for thirsty and hungry travelers.

The new development in nearby Mosaic District is an exciting one for owners Matt Greer and Tim McLaughlin.

"Both my fellow owner Tim McLaughlin and I have been long-term Fairfax residents, and are excited about growing our business in in Northern Virginia," Greer said.

Possible beer garden planned

Caboose and EDENS, the retail real estate development company behind Mosaic, look to create an exciting new destination within Mosaic. Pending approval from Fairfax County, the brewery may offer public tastings and a beer garden, according to the company's announcement.

Plans also including building pedestrian crosswalks to facilitate an easy connection to the rest of Mosaic. Construction is set to begin in the fall with an opening planned for early 2017.

"We are excited to work with Caboose to create a community gathering space that will benefit and complement the existing Mosaic neighborhood," said Reed Kracke, Vice President of Development for EDENS.
