Connolly: New Transportation Secretary Must Increase Funds for Metro
Trump is expected to announce former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao as his Transportation Secretary nominee, several news outlets reported.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- The new Transportation Secretary in the Trump Administration needs to fully fund Metro, Congressman Gerry Connolly (D-11th) said Tuesday, after several media outlets reported that President-elect Trump has chosen former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao as his Transportation Secretary nominee.
Connolly released the following statement on the news of the nominee:
“The challenge facing the new Transportation Secretary from day one will be to increase federal support for Metrorail and resolve long-running questions about the ability of the FTA to provide robust safety oversight of our nation’s transit system. The federal government can no longer be a deadbeat when it comes to operating funds for Metrorail, and I look forward to working with the new Transportation Secretary to secure appropriate federal support for the very transit system that delivers many DOT employees to work each day.”
