Fox Jumps Out of Bushes, Fights with Dog in Vienna: Police

VIENNA, VA -- A dog belonging to a Vienna resident has been quarantined after it got into a fight with a fox, according to Town of Vienna Police. Police say that the resident was walking her dog Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Sioux Court SE when a fox came from out of the bushes. The fox got into a brief fight with her dog and then ran off. The dog is current on its vaccines and the resident was following up with the vet. Officer Barker will follow up on the quarantine, police said.

Vandalism 17-000777 1200 Block Cottage Street, SW Between December 6 at 12:00 p.m. and January 26 at 12:56 p.m. A resident returned home from vacation to find damage to one of the windows of his house.

Assault 17-000527 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW January 17 11:15 a.m. A student from the school came to the Vienna Police Station with her mother to report that she was assaulted by other students at the school earlier in the week. The school administrators are investigating this incident. Sgt. Sheeran advised the student and her mother of the warrant and petition process should they wish to pursue charges.

Suspicious Event 17-000513 500 Block Lewis Street, NW January 18 4:15 p.m. Three juvenile females reported a male driver in a blue sedan made noises and yelled at them as he drove past. The girls reported the same man has done this several times over the past few months while they were walking home from school.

Assault 17-000528 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW January 19 9:02 a.m. Officers responded to the area to assist school authorities in locating a student who assaulted another student then left the school. Ofc. Hylinski located the juvenile and released him to the custody of his mother. The other student did not want to pursue charges for the assault. The school administrators are investigating the incident.

Arrest – Grand Larceny and Narcotics Violation 17-000536 Whole Foods 143 Maple Avenue, East January 19 3:08 p.m. An employee reported a shoplifting that had just occurred at the Whole Foods. The woman was located by officers in the 200 block of Maple Avenue, East. In addition to the stolen property the woman was also in possession of a measurable amount of Marijuana. PFC Tremont arrested the 26-year-old woman with no fixed address. She was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Grand Larceny and Possession of Marijuana.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 17-000541 Patrick Street and DeSale Street, SW January 19 6:17 p.m. Ofc. Post responded to the report of an accident where the driver had struck a parked vehicle. Rescue personnel were on scene evaluating the driver who refused transport to the hospital. Ofc. Post detected signs of impairment. The driver was offered a series of field sobriety tests which he failed. Ofc. Post arrested the 59-year-old man from Patrick Street, SE in Vienna and transported him to the Vienna Police Station where he was offered the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. After the analysis he was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and released to the custody of the Sheriff’s Department.

Burglary 17-000565 Virginia Integrative Health 410 Pine Street, SE, Suite 320 Between January 19 at 7:00 p.m. and January 20 at 10:00 a.m. An employee reported someone forced entry into their office. Nothing was immediately noticed to be missing or disturbed other than the locks to the office that were damaged. This case is being investigated.

Narcotics Violation 17-000555 300 Block Maple Avenue, East January 19 11:47 p.m. Sgt. Kiley observed a vehicle with defective equipment and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon his interaction with the five juvenile occupants he detected the odor of marijuana. A small amount of marijuana was located in the vehicle. The parents of each of the juveniles were notified and responded to take custody of their children. The juveniles were released to the parents after being verbally counseled about the marijuana.

Noise Violation 17-000557 The Bey Lounge 303 Mill Street, NE January 20 12:15 a.m. A resident advised of loud noise coming from the area of The Bey Lounge. Officers checked the area, but observed no violation.

Animal Complaint 17-000617 200 Branch Road, SE January 20 4:30 p.m. A resident reported that his juvenile son was playing at a friend’s house when the friend’s dog jumped on him causing several deep scratches over a large portion of his back. ACO Barker will follow up on this case.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 17-000578 Maple Avenue and Mashie Drive, SE January 20 11:33 p.m. Ofc. Rohr observed a driver commit several traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop. Upon her interaction with the driver she detected signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests she arrested the 22-year-old man from Allison Hollow Way in Gaithersburg, Maryland for Driving While Intoxicated. The driver was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. He was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Arrest – Noise Violation 17-000579 The Bey Lounge, NE 303 Mill Street, NE January 21 12:35 p.m. A resident reported loud music coming from The Bey Lounge. MPO Smith arrived and observed The Bey Lounge to be in violation of the Town noise ordinance. MPO Smith issued a summons to an employee, a 31-year-old man from Dry River Court in Reston, Virginia for violation of the Town of Vienna Noise ordinance. He was released on his signature.

Arrest – Warrant Service 17-000591 The Wolftrap Hotel 440 Maple Avenue, West January 21 7:32 p.m. Ofc. Reedy was on patrol when observed a vehicle in the parking lot that was registered to a woman who was wanted for Failure to Appear on several charges in Maryland. Officers confirmed with hotel employees that the woman was staying in one of the rooms. The woman was located in her room and placed under arrest. Ofc. Rohr transported the 41-year-old woman from Townhouse Road in Henrico, Virginia to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged as a Fugitive from Justice. She will be held pending extradition to Maryland.

Arrest – ABC Violation 17-000596 200 Block Locust Street, SE January 21 9:57 p.m. A resident reported teenagers drinking in the hallway of a building. Ofc. Rohr located three underage females. Upon her interaction with the females she detected the odor of alcohol and observed several open beer bottles. Two of the females, a 20-year-old from Willow Crescent Drive in Fairfax and an 18-year-old from Locust Street, SE in Vienna were issued summons charging Underage Possession of Alcohol. They were both released on their signatures. The third female was a juvenile. She was transported to the Vienna Police Station where she was released to the custody of her mother. Petitions for Underage Possession of Alcohol will be obtained for the juvenile.

Destruction of Property 17-000621 RED Vacuums 171 Maple Avenue, East Between January 21 at 10:00 p.m. and January 22 at 2:00 p.m. An employee left his vehicle in the parking lot overnight with a flat tire. When he returned to the vehicle the following day someone had sprayed an unknown substance on the vehicle, causing damage to it. This case is under investigation

Arrest – Drunk In Public 17-000601 100 Block Niblick Drive, SE January 22 1:14 a.m. A resident reported a man who was attempting to break into a vehicle. The man was located hiding in a neighbor’s backyard. The man showed signs of possible impairment of alcohol and was placed under arrest. Ofc. Rohr transported the 33-year-old man from Casmar Street, SE in Vienna to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was charged with Drunk In Public and was to be held until he was sober.

Suspicious Person 17-000607 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE January 22 2:24 p.m. A resident reported a suspicious man who was sleeping on the balcony in front of his apartment. Officers located the man who lived nearby and transported him to his residence.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation 17-000623 300 Block Maple Avenue, West January 22 4:33 p.m. Officers responded to assist rescue personnel with an unresponsive person in a vehicle in a parking lot. The man was located slumped over the driver’s seat of his vehicle and woke up when officers arrived. It was immediately determined that the man was only tired and had not suffered a medical emergency. The man was found to be in possession of a measurable amount of marijuana. MPO Lose issued the 23-year-old man from Valley Drive, SE in Vienna a summons charging Possession of Marijuana. He was released on his signature.

Suspicious Event 17-000624 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE January 22 8:18 p.m. Officers responded to an incident between a security guard and a visitor to the apartment complex. The visitor stated he observed a man acting suspicious near the apartment windows and vehicles. He was unaware the man was a security guard and began questioning him. The security guard was encouraged to make sure his uniform was visible while he is patrolling and to identify himself when speaking to the residents.

Vandalism 17-000673 1000 Block Echols Street, SE Between January 22 at 10:30 p.m. and January 23 at 8:a.m. A resident reported vandalism to one of her lawn decorations.

Juvenile Case 17-000654 Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW January 24 8:16 a.m. School security advised of a student who left the school grounds. Ofc. Post located the juvenile in the Cedar Lane Shopping Center and returned him to the school.

Suspicious Event 17-000736 INOVA Medical Group 527 Maple Avenue, East
January 24 10:00 a.m. An employee advised a patient became angry over an issue with the coverage of his treatment. During a disagreement with the employee the patient made threatening statements.

Missing Person 17-000689 300 Block Old Courthouse Road, NE January 24 2:55 p.m. A resident reported that her elderly husband as missing. The man returned home while the officers were taking the report.

Suspicious Event 17-000693 Vienna Tiny Tots 204 Courthouse Road, SW January 24 5:36 p.m. The owner of the daycare center advised that a suspicious man, who was known to some of the children, approached a group of children and began socializing with them. The incident made some of the children feel uncomfortable.

Suspicious Person 17-000742 First Baptist Church 450 Orchard Street, NW January 25 7:44 p.m. A security guard reported a man who appeared intoxicated and was refusing to leave the Church. The man made threatening statements to the security guard. The man left the area before police arrived.

Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated 17-000751 Roland Street and Nutley Street, NW January 25 11:37 p.m. Ofc. Reedy observed a vehicle traveling above the posted speed limit and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the signs of possible impairment. After failing to complete a series of field sobriety tests he arrested the 40-year-old man from Vale Road in Vienna for Driving While Intoxicated. The driver was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis. He was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated.

Petit Larceny 17-000779 Sally’s Beauty Supply 329 Maple Avenue, East January 26 1:53 p.m. An employee reported a man stole a pair of clippers from the store.

Assault 17-000789 RED Vacuums 171 Maple Avenue, East January 26 6:05 p.m. An employee reported a former employee had come into the store, assaulted him and made threatening statements. The former employee was advised that he would be arrested for trespass if he returned to the property. The employee was advised of the warrant process should he wish to pursue charges against the man.
