Greater Vienna Babe Ruth Hosts State Baseball Tournament In Vienna

VIENNA, VA — Vienna will host a state baseball tournament for 13-year-olds over five days in July.

The Greater Vienna Babe Ruth Baseball League, a baseball league for players ages 13 to 18, is the host of the 2022 13-Year-olds Baseball State Tournament. Games will be held July 14 to 18 at Waters Field, Center Street S and Cherry Street SE, Vienna, VA.

Teams come from the Babe Ruth Leagues of Virginia and advanced to the state tournament by winning district tournaments. The state tournament winner will advance to the regional tournament, and the regional tournament winner advances to a World Series tournament.

The six participating teams include a team from Greater Vienna Babe Ruth, which gets to participate as the host. Teams will include South Hill, N. Fairfax County, and winners of the District 6, 8 and 9 tournaments.

"As host, Vienna gets to play at its home field among its hometown fans and share the town of Vienna with players from across the state," wrote Kristen Kociolek, a volunteer assisting with the tournament, in an email to Patch.

The league is working with the town government and other local services to help meet the needs of tournament participants. All (including pets) are welcome to attend the games at Waters Field. Kociolek said there will be music in between innings as well as hot dogs, chili dogs, snacks and soft drinks from the snack shack.

Here is the tournament schedule:

1. Thursday, July 14, 4 p.m.: N. Fairfax Co. (District 7) v. District 6

2. Thursday, July 14, 7 p.m.: Greater Vienna v. District 9

3. Friday, July 15, 4p.m.: South Hill (District 2) v. winner of game 1

4. Friday, July 15, 7 p.m.: District 8 v. winner of game 2

5. Saturday, July 16, 1 p.m.: loser of game 2 v. loser of game 3

6. Saturday, July 16, 4 p.m.: loser of game 1 v. loser of game 4

7. Saturday, July 16, 7 p.m.: winner of game 3 v. winner of game 4

8. Sunday, July 17, 1 p.m.: winner of game 6 v. winner of game 5

9. Sunday, July 17, 4 p.m., loser of game 7 v. winner of game 8

10. Monday, July 18, 10 a.m., winner of game 6 vs. winner of game 9

11. Monday, July 18, 12 p.m. winner of game 10 vs. loser of game 10 (if needed)

The state tournament winner will move on to the regional tournament, which begins July 27 in Altamonte Springs, Florida. The World Series for 13-year-olds begins Aug. 10 in Glen Allen, Virginia.
