Little League Majors State Tournament Coming Up In Vienna

VIENNA, VA — Vienna will welcome Little League teams from around Virginia as it hosts the 2021 Virginia State Little League Majors Tournament from July 23 to 27. An estimated 800 to 1,000 people will turn up for the tournament over five days.

Vienna Little League is in charge of hosting the tournament with Virginia District 4 at Yeonas Park. This is the first time since 2004 that Vienna will host the tournament. Mike Jreige, president of the Vienna Little League, previously told Patch Vienna would have hosted the tournament in 2020. But since the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the tournament, district representatives agreed to let Vienna host in 2021.

The district champion teams from 16 districts will compete in the tournament. Preliminary pool play games in a round-robin format will happen from July 23 to 25. Pool play games for first and second place teams in four pools will follow on July 26, and the final will happen at 10 a.m. on July 27.

The hometown team gets to represent District 4 in the state tournament. Vienna National captured the district championship with a win over Falls Church.

July 22

Team check in from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. - Yeonas Park

Opening parade at 5:30 p.m.- The tournament kicks off with a Parade of Champions from Cedar Park Shopping Center down Patrick Street to Yeonas Park. Teams will present their District Championship flag during the parade. The Washington Nationals Presidents will also participate.

Opening ceremony at 6:15 p.m. The first pitch will be done by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and Vienna Mayor Linda Colbert. - Crabtree Field at Yeonas Park.

July 23

Tournament begins - 9 a.m.

July 23-July 25

Preliminary pool play games 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.- Crabtree Field and Rhodes Field

July 26

Pool play 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.- Crabtree Field and Rhodes Field

July 27

Final at 10 a.m. - Crabtree Field

Vienna Little League will have its snack bar open throughout all tournament activities to serve cold drinks and snacks. Food trucks will be featured at different times throughout the tournament weekend.
