VIENNA, VA — For the first time since 2004, Vienna is hosting the Virginia State Little League Majors Tournament. From July 23 to July 27, the championship teams from 16 districts will compete to earn the title of state champion in 2021. The winner will advance to the Southeast region tournament — and ultimately hope to make the Little League World Series.
Tournament festivities kicked off Thursday in Vienna with an opening parade down Patrick Street to Yeonas Park and an opening ceremony at Crabtree Field at Yeonas Park.
Each team paraded down Patrick Street with their district championship banner, earning cheers from supporters. Among the teams is the hometown favorite — Vienna National representing District 4.

The Washington Nationals' Racing Presidents were on hand to greet teams and spectators at the entrance to Yeonas Park. George, Tom, Abe and Teddy took pictures with fans and interacted with the kids before joining the teams on Crabtree Field for the opening ceremony.

Aside from the teams, the parade featured Vienna Police and the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department. The fire department brought out its 1946 antique fire engine. The volunteer fire department will be present at Yeonas Park during the entire tournament to assist if needed.

After the parade, teams and spectators gathered for the opening ceremony on Crabtree Field. District 4 administrator Ellen Witherow announced each team, and each marched out and took position in the outfield facing home plate.

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and Vienna Mayor Linda Colbert were on hand to provide remarks and throw the first pitches.
Northam, who grew up playing Little League, congratulated the all stars and families.
"To all of the players here tonight, work hard, play hard, have fun and great luck to you," said Northam.
Colbert welcomed the teams from around the state to Vienna. She told visitors her office is available to help if they need anything.
"We're going to have a great time," said Colbert. "I cannot wait to see the talent. I'm going to come to some games and I can't wait to see you all play."

Witherow said all the teams are winners teams for getting to the state tournament. She and the players thanked the people who supported the players along the way.
"In order for you guys to get here, you needed a lot of support," said Witherow. "And there's a lot of people who helped you out to get here."
