1 Point Is Difference In Madison Football's Defeat In State Championship Game

In the class 6 championship, the Madison Warhawks lost by one point despite a late Hail Mary with the clock running out.

VIENNA, VA — After an undefeated season, the Madison Wahawks' quest for a first football state championship win ended with a defeat in the championship game Saturday.

Madison High School lost 21-20 to Chesapeake's Oscar Smith High School in the class 6 final of the Virginia High School League. As reported by the Washington Post, the Warhawks had a chance to win with a Hail Mary touchdown. However, the team was penalized 15 yards for an excessive celebration. An attempt for a two-point conversion failed following the 15-yard penalty.

The Madison Warhawks had an undefeated 14-0 season going into the state championship game. The team beat Lake Braddock Secondary School 42-19 to advance to the state championship.
