Madison High Student Participates in NIH Internship Program
NIH continued Madison High junior Sach's research once his summer internship ended.

VIENNA, VA -- Madison High junior Sach participated in the summer internship program at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) this past summer, Fairfax County Public Schools reported Friday. Sach spent the months of July and August in an NIH lab investigating the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) related to colorectal cancer.
During his research, he discovered three proteins that are directly related to colorectal cancer and this discovery prompted NIH to continue his research once the internship ended. Sach also continued his research as part of his science fair project in cellular and molecular biology during the current school year.
His project, The Development of a Novel Affinity Purification of APC-dependent RNAs, placed first for its category and advances to the Intel Science Fair Regionals. Sach landed the internship after placing second in the Virginia State Science Fair last year and the previous work he did with the Department of Pharmacology at Georgetown University.
