The Madison High School Robotics Team placed fourth among 63 teams last weekend enroute to a semi-finals finish at the D.C. Foundation for Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) competition.
The Team 620 Warbots won seven matches and lost only two during the qualification rounds, which earned the team its best finish in several years, parent leader Don May wrote in an email.
In one of those matches, the team scored the most points (79) of any all weekend.
After advancing to the elimination rounds, the Warbot alliance won both quarter-final matches to advance to the semifinals, where they finished 1-2 to end their run.

The team won the competition's "Creativity Award," which "celebrates creative design, in process, execution, or via a creative or unique strategy of play."
"The judges were impressed with our unique mechanism and our ability to use it
effectively on the field," May wrote. "We should all be proud of the team's accomplishments this season. It required a lot of hard work and determination, but it paid off in the end."
