Madison sports teams recognized by Vienna Town Council
Mayor DiRocco pays tribute to four teams that advanced to state finals last school year
Four Madison sports teams were recognized at the Vienna Town Council meeting on the evening of September 16. Led by Principal Greg Hood and Assistant Director of Student Activities Andrew Baird, the boys and girls lacrosse teams, the girls swim and dive team, and the boys soccer team assembled at City Hall in front of the Town Council and Vienna residence to receive recognition for their on the field (and in the pool) performances during last school year.
Mayor Laurie DiRocco recognized each team with a plaque from the city to commemorate the teams' achievements during the 2018-19 school year. Invited back for a third straight year was Coach Andrew Foos and the girls swim and dive team. Wearing their distinctive #3Peat t-shirts, Mayor DiRocco cited several impressive accomplishments by the team, including several state and national level records that were set last season. Also in attendance was first year boys lacrosse head coach Aaron Solomon and his boys lacrosse team who won the Class 6 Boys State Lacrosse Championship for the first time in school history. The girls lacrosse team, coached by Jean Counts and the boys soccer team, coached by Randy Wood were also recognized for their State Runner-Up performances.
Each of the student athletes in attendance were introduced and the ceremony concluded with Principal Hood thanking the mayor and the town council for their recognition of the Madison students.
