Midday Attack by Fox: Vienna Cat Under Quarantine: Police
Also in recent Town of Vienna Police report, a man is charged with DWI after police say he ran over a mailbox, highway sign, utility pole.

VIENNA, VA -- The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from May 13, 2016 – May 19, 2016. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.

Some reports may be outside the date parameters due to extended investigations or other circumstances. Some cases are not included at all due to ongoing investigations. - Destruction of Property 16-004134: 400 Block Kramer Drive, SE, April 15 9:30 a.m. A resident advised that he witnessed his neighbor damage his vehicle. The resident was advised of the warrant process if he wished to pursue charges.
- Lost Property 16-003735: Shell Gas Station 252 Maple Avenue, West May 4 5:45 p.m. A citizen reported losing his wallet while he was at the gas station.
- Vehicle Tampering 16-003839: 500 Block Walker Street, SW Between May 8 at 7:00 p.m. and May 9 at 11:00 a.m. A resident advised someone rummaged through her unlocked vehicle while it was parked in her driveway. Nothing appeared to have been taken.
- Animal Case – Quarantine 16-003907: 500 Block Park Street, NE May 9 12:00 p.m. A resident reported that her cat was injured after being attacked by a fox in their yard. The cat was treated by its veterinarian and released to go home. The fox ran off after the attack. Since the health condition of the fox is not known the cat was placed under quarantine for 45 days.
- Grand Larceny 16-003867: 700 Block Courthouse Road, SW Between May 9 at 6:00 p.m. and May 10 at 6:30 a.m. An employee reported two water pumps and a camera were taken from a work site. This case is being investigated.
- Domestic Dispute 16-003857: Hillcrest Drive, SW May 10 12:16 a.m. Officers responded to the report of a domestic dispute between a resident and his adult son. The resident advised his son has a history of domestic violence and that he came home drunk tonight and began making threats. The family expressed that they wanted the son to leave the residence for the night in concern for their safety. Arrangements were made for the son to stay elsewhere and for a driver to pick him up from the residence. The son left the residence without further incidence.
- Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated / Refusal / Hit & Run 16-003861: 600 Block Marshall Road May 10 4:23 a.m. A driver ran off the roadway striking a resident’s mailbox, a highway sign, a reflective post and a utility pole. The driver then fled the scene and was located by officers in front of his residence. Upon his interaction with the driver, Ofc. Bulti determined he may have been impaired. After failing a series of sobriety tests he arrested the 34 year old man from Lynn Street, SW in Vienna for Driving While Intoxicated and Hit & Run. He was transported to the Vienna Police Station where he was given the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, but refused. Ofc. Bulti transported the man to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal and Hit & Run. He was released to the custody of the Sheriff’s Department and was to be held until he was sober.
- Vehicle Tampering 16-003919: 200 Block Ross Drive, SW Between May 10 at 4:30 p.m. and May 11 at 5:30 a.m. A resident reported someone entered his vehicle and took a GPS system and a tool. The vehicle had been left unlocked and parked in the driveway
- Vehicle Tampering 16-003922: 300 Block Patrick Street, SW Between May 10 at 5:00 p.m. and May 11 at 7:00 p.m. A resident reported someone rummaged through her unlocked vehicle that was parked in front of her house. Nothing appeared to have been taken.
- Grand Larceny 16-3927: 100 Block Patrick Street, SW: Between May 10 at 7:00 p.m. and May 11 at 8:00 a.m. A resident reported her laptop computer stolen from her vehicle which was parked in the driveway unlocked.
- Vandalism 16-003946: Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE May 12 between 7:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. An employee reported vandalism to her vehicle that was legally parked in the parking lot. This case is being investigated.
- Fraud 16-003982: 1100 Block Ware Street, SW May 12 11:00 a.m. A resident advised she does accounting work for a business in Massachusetts. The business received a call from a utility company stating that a debt was owed on their account and if the debt was not paid the utilities would be turned off. The resident contacted the utility company and was advised she would have to obtain pre-paid VISA cards to satisfy the debt. The resident obtained the VISA cards and provided them to the utility company. She then discovered the utilities were already paid and that this was a fraud. This case is being investigated.
- Arrest – Drunk In Public 16-003954: 100 Block Patrick Street, SE May 12 5:49 p.m. Officers responded to assist with a possible medical emergency. Rescue personnel evaluated the man and determined he was intoxicated and was not in need of further medical attention. MPO Lyons arrested the 36 year old man from Eagle Tavern Lane in Centreville, Virginia for Drunk In Public. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until sober.
- Suspicious Person 16-003974: Giant Food 359 Maple Avenue, East May 13 8:44 a.m. An employee reported that a man entered the store and attempted to claim a Western Union wire transfer. The man’s identification did not match the information on the transfer and the store could not complete the transaction. The man then became argumentative and verbally abusive toward the employee. The man left the area before police arrived.
- Vandalism 16-004086: 700 Block Plum Street, SW Between May 13 at 11:00 a.m. and May 16 at 3:30 p.m. A resident reported vandalism to his garage door.
- Suspicious Event 16-003989: Apple Federal Credit Union 419 Maple Avenue, East May 13 4:23 p.m. An employee reported receiving threatening email and telephone calls at work. This case is being investigated.
- Vandalism 16-004028: 300 Block Charles Street, SE Between May 13 at 9:00 p.m. and May 14 at 9:00 a.m. A resident reported that someone left a cracked egg on the hood of his vehicle.
- Arrest – Narcotics Violation 16-003999: Nutley Street at Tapawingo Road, SW May 13 10:26 p.m. MPO Smith observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the occupants he detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. After further interaction he located two bottles containing a measurable amount of marijuana. The driver, an 18 year old man from Timmark Court in Vienna and one of the passengers, an 18 year old man from Myers Circle, SW in Vienna were both issued summonses for Possession of Marijuana. They were both released after signing their summons.
- Vandalism 16-004029: 200 Block Charles Street, SE Between May 13 at 10:30 p.m. and May 14 at 8:30 a.m. A resident reported that someone threw multiple eggs at the residence, striking the roof, siding and bricks around the house.
- Defrauding a Cab Driver 16-004002: James Madison Shell 545 Maple Avenue, West May 13 10:46 p.m. A cab driver reported an intoxicated customer left his cab without paying his fare. The customer left the area before officers arrived. This case is being investigated.
- Arrest – Narcotics Violation 16-004009: Nutley Street and Windover Avenue, NW May 13 11:51 p.m. Ofc. Herrera observed a vehicle being driven by an individual who had a suspended driver’s license and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he observed a measurable amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Ofc. Herrera issued summonses to the 32 year old man from Courthouse Road, SW in Vienna for Possession of Marijuana and Driving on a Suspended License. His vehicle was left legally parked and he was released on his signature.
- Narcotics Violation 16-004012: 300 Block Maple Avenue, West May 14 12:29 a.m. Ofc. Reedy observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the occupants he detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer found a very minimal amount of marijuana in the vehicle. The officer released the occupants with a verbal warning.
- Arrest – Driving Under the Influence of Marijuana 16-004025: Nutley Street and Tapawingo Road, SW May 14 3:07 a.m. Ofc Reedy observed a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he determined he may have been impaired, and the officer detected the odor of marijuana. After failing a series of field sobriety tests the officer arrested the 27 year old man from Chain Bridge Road in Vienna for Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (Marijuana). He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where a sample of his blood was drawn for analysis. After the blood draw he was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs. The man was issued an unsecured bond of $3000 and released on his own recognizance.
- Assist EMS 16-004030: Vienna Police Department 215 Center Street, South May 14 10:19 a.m. A citizen came into the Vienna Police Department stating that he was being followed. PFC Kiley determined that the man appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic. Rescue personnel responded to evaluate the man and transported him to an area hospital for further observation.
- Arrest – Felony Driving While Intoxicated / Obstruction of Justice 16-004045: Horseshoe Drive and Chain Bridge Road May 14 8:55 p.m. A citizen reported an erratic driver on Maple Avenue and a lookout was given over the radio for the vehicle. Ofc. Reedy initiated a traffic stop after locating the vehicle and observing the driver commit a series of traffic violations. Upon his interaction with the driver he determined he may have been impaired. After failing a series of sobriety tests he informed the driver that he was under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. The driver immediately began to resist arrest and became combative with the officer and Sgt. Farhan. Ofc. Reedy arrested the 27 year old man from Parkway Terrace Drive in Suitland, Maryland and transported him to the Vienna Police Station. Rescue personnel responded to assess the man for injuries. Once he was cleared by the rescue personnel he was provided the opportunity to submit a sample of his breath for analysis. The man was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Felony Driving While Intoxicated (3rd Offense), Obstruction of Justice, Driving on a Revoked License and a traffic summons. He was to be held until Monday morning when he would see a judge for a bond hearing.
- Petit Larceny 16-004090: 800 Block Meadow Lane, SW Between May 14 at 10:30 p.m. and May 15 at 12:00 p.m. A resident reported someone entered his two unlocked vehicles and removed US currency. This case is under investigation.
- Suspicious Event 16-004050: 400 Block Upham Place, NW May 15 3:20 a.m. Officers responded to the report of several young men getting ready to fight. They located the men and found that one of them was drunk and the others were trying to assist him in getting home. They were arguing in front of another friend’s home. When officers gave the intoxicated man the choice of going home with his friend, going back into his other friend’s house or going to jail for being intoxicated in public he chose to go back into the residence and stay until he was sober.
- Open Door 16-004053: Joes Place Pizza & Pasta 435 Maple Avenue, West May 15 9:42 a.m. Officers responded to a report of an alarm at the restaurant and found an open front door. They searched the restaurant and found nothing appeared to be disturbed.
- Open Door 16-004054: 500 Block Lincoln Street, NW May 15 10:55 a.m. Officers responding to an alarm at a residence found an open front door. The home was searched and nothing suspicious was found. It appeared that the door had not been completely shut by the resident and was blown open by the wind.
- Found Property 16-004079: 1000 Block Frederick Street, SW May 16 6:50 a.m. A resident reported a bicycle lying against the curb in the roadway. The bicycle was brought to the Vienna Police Station to be released to the owner.
- Animal Case – Quarantine 16-004080: The Hope Center 140 Park Street, SE May 13 5:00 p.m. An employee was bitten on the thumb by a dog while attempting to perform a medical procedure. The dog resides in Arlington County, Virginia. The Arlington Animal Welfare League will follow up with the animal’s quarantine.
- Police Service 16-004082: 300 Block Mashie Drive, SE May 16 9:40 a.m. A resident turned in ammo for destruction.
- Suspicious Event 16-004103: Vienna Elementary School 128 Center Street, South May 17 3:12 p.m. A staff member advised of a behavioral issue they were having with one of their younger students.
- Arrest – Narcotics Violation 16-004135: Kingsley Road and Myers Circle, SW May 18 4:48 p.m. MPO Bailey observed a vehicle commit a traffic offense and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected the odor of marijuana. The driver was found to be in possession of a measurable amount of marijuana. The driver, an 18 year old man from Cedar Lane, SE in Vienna was issued a summons for Possession of Marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.
