New Officer Joins Vienna PD
Town of Vienna Police Department welcomes Officer Walter J. Harter to the Police Department.

From the Vienna Police Department:
VIENNA, VA - On November 16, 2016, Officer Walter J. Harter joined the Town of Vienna Police Department. Prior to joining the department, Officer Harter served with the Fairfax County Police Department for approximately 27 years, where he worked in patrol, background investigations, personnel resources division and internal affairs, including 2 years as a sergeant and 3 years as an second lieutenant in patrol. He spent the last two years as a second lieutenant in the Robbery Section.
Officer Harter was born in Brooklyn, New York. In 1989, he began his career in law enforcement with the Fairfax County Police Department. He graduated from the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy’s 13th Session. Officer Harter was in good company in the 13th Session, as the current Town of Vienna’s Chief of Police James Morris, Deputy Chief of Police Daniel Janickey, Master Police Officer Eric Hall and Officer John Sterling also graduated from that same session.

Officer Harter and his wife of 16 years have two children. An avid athlete, Officer Harter has completed the Ironman Triathlon twice. When he is not patrolling the streets of Vienna, Officer Harter enjoys watching NY Yankees and NY Giants games. Officer Harter obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Bluefield College in Virginia.
