No Lottery Held As Only 1 Holiday Display Submitted On Vienna Town Green
After a lottery process was introduced last year to choose community displays for the Vienna Town Green, only one was submitted this year.

VIENNA, VA — Just one community-submitted holiday display takes center stage with Vienna's Christmas tree on the Town Green this year.
The Town of Vienna had accepted holiday displays submissions to go with the Christmas tree outside the Freeman Store and Museum. This year, the only display submitted was the Menorah by Chabad Tysons to celebrate Hanukkah.
The Menorah was installed on Dec. 9 on the Freeman Store Lawn near the Town’s holiday tree. Chabad Tysons will plan a Menorah lighting at 5 p.m. on Dec. 29 with latkes and donuts, music and more. The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah runs from the evening of Dec. 25 to Jan. 2.

"Our Town Manager, Mercury Payton, championed this process last year to provide an opportunity for community members to honor various winter holiday traditions in our public space," said Vienna Parks and Recreation director Leslie Herman. "We live in a multi-cultural community and providing an opportunity for people to share traditions that may be different from our own helps foster mutual respect and understanding among all residents in the season of light."
Last year, the town had three displays selected from a lottery process. Applicants for the holiday displays have to be from the Town of Vienna or serve Vienna residents, plus meet design, installation, maintenance, celebratory gathering, and removal criteria.
