Police Log: 'Irate' Customer Banned From Rite Aid

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Police banned a customer from last week after she became irate over the amount of time it took to fill her prescription.

An employee of the store, located at 215 Maple Avenue NW, reported at 2 p.m. March 2 that a customer had become irate, shouting obscenities at the pharmacist for not having her prescription filled in a timely fashion.

The angry customer then began to leave the store, knocking items off the shelves as she exited. Another employee confronted the woman as she was leaving and was met with a second barrage of obscenities, the employee reported.

Police contacted the customer using the information she had on file at the store. The customer related a different version of events to police but was subsequently banned from the store. Police also spoke with the employees about the warrant obtainment process.

  • A woman reported she lost her British identification card while walking at 11 a.m. Feb. 17 along Creek Crossing Road NE.
  • At 3:03 p.m. Feb. 27, a vehicle was parking out of a parking space at 212 Maple Ave E when it struck a legally parked vehicle. The striking vehicle and driver then fled from the scene of the crash. An alert citizen took down the license plate number of the fleeing vehicle and provided it to police. After a short investigation the driver, Tien Xuan Phan, 31, of Fairfax, was located and charged with hit and run. He was issued a summons for the violation and released after signing it.
  • A vehicle stopped at the stop sign on Berry Street at Maple Avenue at 1:28 p.m. Feb. 28. After the driver checked right and left, the driver and vehicle moved forward and struck a pedestrian that had entered the crosswalk. The pedestrian and the driver never made eye contact and the pedestrian assumed the driver had seen him. The pedestrian did not sustain any injuries.
  • A man reported between 9 p.m. Feb. 28 and 8 a.m. Feb. 29 someone smeared what appeared to be feces over the air vents of his vehicle.
  • A citizen reported between March 1 and 8, someone forced entry into his mother's home on Windover Avenue NW through a windowpane, and then, a door lock. It doesn't appear as if anything was stolen from the home. Police are still investigating the case.
  • A man reported at 6:03 p.m. March 2 a suspiciously dressed individual was in his backyard on Park Street NE. After the complainant confronted the subject the man fled from the yard. Police were then notified. The individual was described as a 6-foot tall black male in his 30’s wearing a black running suit.
  • While conducting a traffic stop at 2:42 a.m. March 3 at Lawyers Road and Blair Court NW, police detected the presence of suspected marijuana inside the vehicle. Further investigation yielded the marijuana and various pieces of smoking paraphernalia. Police issued Emilio Halili, 19, of Sterling, was issued a summons for possession of marijuana. He was released after signing the summons.
  • A woman called to report at 6:19 p.m. March 3 she and her service dog had been asked to leave , 143 Maple Ave E. The woman said she needs the dog for hearing purposes. The management stated they asked the complainant and her dog to leave as the dog was being carried in a purse and did not have a service vest displayed. Police successfully resolved the situation, and the dog and owner left the store.
  • An employee of AJ’s Sports Shop, 255 Maple Ave NW, reported between 6:45 p.m. March 3 and 2:30 p.m. March 4 someone through a rock through one of the store windows.
  • A worker reported he left his cell phone in his work bay when he left work at 7 p.m. March 3 at 141 Maple Avenue W. When he returned at 7:45 a.m. March 4, it was missing.
  • Police responded to Walker Street SW for a 9-1-1 call at 5:21 a.m. March 4 in which the caller hung up without providing any information. Their investigation revealed a man assaulted his girlfriend after an argument over a missing food stamp card. The warrant obtainment process was explained to the victim. The boyfriend was also banned from the property.
  • A citizen reported an unlicensed solicitor was going door to door at 3:48 p.m. March 4 along Westview Court NE. Police located the subject and identified him. After counseling the individual regarding his need for a license and checking for any outstanding warrants, the individual was released.
  • A man reported he left his bicycle in a bike rack at 3:55 p.m. March 4 outside Whole Foods Market, 143 Maple Avenue SE. When he returned a short time later he discovered his wallet, which was left in an unsecured pouch attached to the bicycle, was gone. Several credit cards as well as some cash were taken along with the wallet itself. Police are still investigating the case.
  • A parent reported at 10 a.m. March 5 that his daughter is not attending school as she should be and they are arguing often. Police responded to the girl's home on Owaissa Road and spoke to her, after which her mother transported her to school.
  • A woman found a stray dog wandering aimlessly at noon March 5near the intersection of Park Street and Adahi Road. She then brought it to Vienna Police Headquarters. The black female German shepherd mix was taken to the Fairfax County Animal Shelter to await retrieval by its owner.
  • A woman reported at 4:30 p.m. March 5 she heard someone strike her mailbox and break the post outside her home on Glyndon Street NE.
  • At 9 a.m. March 6, Police observed two juvenile boys jumping over a fence to enter in to a shopping center area in the 500 Block of Maple Avenue West. This was occurring during school hours. The boys claimed they were heading to school, however, their movements indicated otherwise. Police transported the two back to James Madison High School and turned them over to the staff.
  • Police responded for a domestic dispute between a husband and wife at 7:33 p.m. March 6 on Park Terrace Court. The argument stemmed from the need to fill a prescription and the fact the wife did not want to go out in public. The husband was upset because he did not want to have to wait in line to fill the prescription; he wanted to call ahead. The wife, however, refused to let the husband use her cell phone because she was low on minutes. After counseling by police the couple agreed the husband could call in the prescription using the wife’s phone. He would then go and pick it up for her.
  • A man reported at 10:50 p.m. March 7 his daughter entered his home on Thelma Circle and took the family dog. The man wanted the dog to be returned. The daughter was located a short time later at the Wolftrap Hotel and was in possession of the animal. After speaking with police, the daughter agreed to let the dog return to her father’s home. Police took it back to its home.

Arrests

During a traffic stop at 11:35 p.m. March 5 near Park Street and Moore Avenue SE, police suspected the driver was impaired. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests, the driver, Nicholas Frederick Gauthier, 18, of Oakton, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and possession of fictitious identification. A passenger in the vehicle, Austin Charles Day, 18, of Reston, was also arrested and charged with drunk in public and possession of fictitious identification. Gauthier was taken to Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis. After the analysis both men were transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
