Police Log: Cocaine Found At School; Car Break-ins Investigated

The following arrest information was supplied by the Vienna Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Vienna Police haven't been able to identify the owner of cocaine that was found at Cedar Lane Center school last week.

At 1:29 p.m. March 9, an employee of the school found what appeared to be a container of cocaine inside a classroom.

The powder field tested positive for cocaine and was placed into storage pending destruction.

Officers were not able to determine who owned the substance.

A series of car break-ins were reported to Vienna Police last week, all believed to have occurred in the overnight hours of March 13 to 14.

The following incidents happened in the same Northwest section of town. Most of the cars appear to have been unlocked:

  • A man reported that between 8 p.m. March 13 and 11:57 am March 14, people had apparently entered his vehicle, parked on Walnut Lane NW. The vehicle was unlocked. The individuals rummaged through the vehicle but it did not appear that anything was stolen.
  • A woman reported between 8 p.m. March 13 and 11:29 a.m. March 14, a resident reported two of her vehicles had been unlawfully entered while parked at her home on Walnut Lane. It did not appear that entry into the cars was forced. Nothing appears to have been stolen from the cars.
  • A woman reported between 8 p.m. March 13 and 10 a.m. March 14, a resident reported two of her vehicles had been unlawfully entered while parked at her home on Lewis Street. It did not appear that entry into the cars was forced. A small amount of cash was stolen from one of the vehicles.
  • A man reported between 8 p.m. March 13 and 11:30 a.m. March 14, his vehicle had been unlawfully entered while parked on Walnut Lane NW. The car was unlocked. Nothing appears to have been stolen from the car.
  • A man awoke to find all three of his parked and unlocked vehicles had their doors open and were unlawfully entered between 8:30 p.m. March 13 and 6:45 a.m. March 14 while parked at his home on West Street NW. Nothing appears to have been stolen from the cars.
  • A woman reported between 8:30 p.m. March 13 and 7:35 a.m. March 14, someone entered her unlocked vehicle parked on Knoll Street NW and stole her iPod. Police are investigating this case.

Other Highlights from the Vienna Police Department March 9 to 15:

  • An employee reported between November 3, 2011 and Jan. 26, he sent two checks to a merchant in Florida, but another person cashed the checks electronically. Police are still investigating the case.
  • A resident reported he and an acquaintance had moved some items into storage between Feb. 18 and 27 at United Storage, 300 Mill Street NE. The acquaintance was going to sell some of the items for a commission. But when the resident checked the unit a few days later, he discovered his items were gone. He has not been able to get in touch with the acquaintance. Police are still investigating this case.
  • A resident reported finding a small hole and crack in his kitchen window Feb. 27 at his home on Spring Street SE. It's unclear what caused the damage.
  • A mother reported her cell phone was stolen around 1 p.m. Feb. 29 from her daughter's house on Walker Street SW. Police are still investigating the case.
  • A woman reported after eating dinner March 8 at on Maple Avenue, she left her iPhone on the table. When she went back to get it, she discovered it had been taken. Police investigated and found the table bus buy had taken the phone. It was traced to his residence and recovered after police interviewed the bus boy. The woman declined to prosecute the individual for the theft after the phone was returned. The management told police it would take some type of action against the employee.
  • A property manager reported between 8 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. March 9, someone had opened a roof hatch on a building in the 300 block of Maple Avenue W.
  • An employee of , 128 Center Street South, reported at 9 a.m. March 9 she had been receiving unusual voicemail messages, which appear to be a scam threatening her arrest for nonpayment of outstanding loans that don't exist.
    Note to citizens- This is a very common type of scam in which an individual is threatened with “arrest” for an unpaid fine or something similar. Please verify the authenticity of all inquiries and contacts involving financial or personal information.
  • A man reported his wife was refusing to allow him to leave his bedroom at 9 a.m. March 9 at their home on Kingsley Road SW, unless he paid her some money she is owed. Police discussed legal options with the man.
  • Between March 9 and 12, someone painted an obscene image on the side of a building at the , 100 Block Harmony Drive SW.
  • A mother and daughter were arguing inside a car at 4:28 p.m. March 9 while they were picking up another sibling at . As a form of discipline, the mother told the daughter to exit the vehicle and walk home. The daughter then called her father, who is divorced from her mother, to come pick her up. Once the mother discovered the daughter had received a ride home instead of walking she made her sit outside the house. The girl then called her boyfriend and the boyfriend came to the house. He then began arguing with the mother. The daughter’s father was ultimately summoned to return. He took the girl to his home.
  • A man reported between 9 p.m. March 9 and 11 a.m. March 10, someone threw a rock that struck his vehicle on Ware Street SW.
  • A woman reported while her vehicle was parked at 11:30 a.m. March 10 in the parking lot of 337 Maple Avenue East (the Giant Shopping Center) obscenities and obscene images were drawn into the paint of her car.
  • A woman reported she wanted to get some of her late father's possessions at 12:17 p.m. March 10 from a home on Orchard Street. The woman was concerned for her safety after receiving a threat from her grandmother, the homeowner. The woman wanted to remove some vehicles on the property but the grandmother wouldn’t allow her to do so. It was decided that the vehicles could be removed on March 12th.
  • A father reported at 6:56 p.m. March 10 that his adult daughter, whom he had previously banned from his Thelma Circle property, had returned to the house to speak with him. Police spoke with the woman and explained the circumstances and manner in which she was permitted to speak to her father without entering on to his property.
  • A man reported that as he passed by a patron at 1:01 a.m. March 11 at , 262 Cedar Lane SE, he was struck in the head. Several witnesses told police the man shoved the patron first and was then struck. The warrant obtainment process was explained to both parties.
  • A man reported at 10:19 a.m. March 11 that another man had just urinated on the curb outside his home on Old Courthouse Road. He confronted the individual, who walked away after apologizing to the homeowner.
  • While walking at 12:18 p.m. March 11 through Northside Park, a man reported coming across a tarp, old fire pit remnants and a knife. The items were collected and disposed of properly by police.
  • A man reported after blowing his horn at another driver at 12:45 p.m. March 11, he was followed to his home on Windover Avenue NW. The suspicious driver started at the man but soon left the area.
  • A man reported while his vehicle was parked at 2 p.m. March 11 on Moore Avenue SW, someone had scribed obscene images in to the paint. An alert citizen observed the criminal activity and followed the vehicle as it fled away. Police investigated the case but unfortunately the license plate number provided for the blue VW Jetta was not on file.
  • A man reported losing his wallet and its contents at 3 p.m. March 11 at Lee’s Car Wash, 159 Maple Avenue NW.
  • An employee reported he left his vehicle parked between 5 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. March 11 behind , 205 Maple Avenue E, while he was working at the store. Upon returning to his vehicle he discovered a passenger side window had been broken out and a visible piece of gold jewelry was missing. This case is still being investigated.
  • Police saw a man drinking alcohol in public at 7:50 p.m. March 11 on Patrick Street SE. After a brief investigation, Moris Argueta, 32, of Woodbridge, was issued a summons for the violation. Mr. Argueta was released after signing the summons.
  • While conducting a traffic stop at 2:59 a.m. March 12 at Maple Avenue and Beulah Road NE, police noticed the driver showed signs of possible impairment. Police also learned the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests the driver was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was taken to Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis. The analysis revealed that the driver’s blood alcohol content did not rise to the level of impairment and he was de-arrested. He was then issued a summons for driving without a valid operator’s license.
  • A woman reported between 2 and 4 p.m. March 12, someone broke a rear window out of her vehicle while it was parked on Mounfort Court SW. It did not appear that anything was stolen from the interior of the vehicle.
  • At 12:37 p.m. March 12, a citizen brought a crossbow into the Vienna Police Station, 215 Center Street South. The item will be destroyed according to the owner’s wishes.
  • A mother reported at 2:42 p.m. March 12 her daughter took her car from her Berry Street home two days ago but has yet to return with the vehicle. After investigating, police determined the vehicle is titled in both the mother and daughter's names and that no crime had been committed. The family conservator was contacted and was made aware of the situation.
  • Police stopped a vehicle at 1:19 a.m. March 13 at Lewis and West Streets NW because it had ignored a stop sign and was playing loud music in violation of the Town of Vienna noise ordinance. During their interaction with the driver, police detected the presence of suspected marijuana. Further investigation yielded the suspected marijuana. The driver, Luke Wade Robert Hamby, 18, of Vienna was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and for the noise violation. Hamby was released after signing both summonses.
  • A man reported that at 3:11 p.m. March 13, a solicitor came to his home and began banging on his front door. When the man asked the solicitor what he wanted, the solicitor told him to open his door and talk to him about fixing his driveway. The complainant told the man to leave and he did so.
  • While conducting a traffic stop at 12:34 p.m. March 14 at Echols and East Street SE, police detected the presence of suspected marijuana inside the vehicle. Further investigation yielded the suspected marijuana. Alexander Rojas, 22, of Vienna, was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and released after
    signing it.
  • A man reported after an exchange of misunderstood text messages and phone calls with a female neighbor at 3:15 p.m. March 14, he went to the woman's home on Melody Lane SE to try to explain things. During the encounter the neighbor pushed the man several times. Approximately 90 minutes later, police responded for a 9-1-1 call in which the caller hung up prior to speaking with a Vienna Police dispatcher. A woman (the aforementioned female neighbor) reported that her neighbor had come to her home and pushed her. The complainant reported that she pushed him back and was not interested in pursuing any charges. Police explained the warrant obtainment process was to both parties.
  • Police responded at 7:22 p.m. March 14 to assist Fairfax County EMS at the, 436 Maple Avenue E, where an expectant mother was having complications with her pregnancy. The woman was transported from the ABC store to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
  • A mother and her adult daughter were involved in a verbal argument at 8:48 p.m. March 14 on Berry Street SE. The pair is well known to police. Police spoke with both women and the mother agreed to leave the residence to stay with another daughter for the evening.
  • A mother reported at 5:19 p.m. March 15 from Berry Street SE her daughter was using her vehicle. The mother reported that the daughter had been removed from the title and was no longer an owner of the vehicle. Police using Virginia DMV records could not verify these statements. It appeared that both the mother and daughter were still owners of the vehicle.


ARRESTS

A citizen reported at 1:18 p.m. March 14 an apparently intoxicated man had just urinated on a fence near Westwood Park, Ayrhill Avenue and East Street NE. Police located the man and after a brief investigation, arrested Kevin
Booth, 45, of Thompson Station, Tennessee for drunk in public. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
