VIENNA, VA -- The Town of Vienna Police are investigating a swastika left at a local business, police said in their weekly report released Friday.
Police received a report Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. from Dunkin' Donuts, at 314 Maple Ave., West, that an employee found a swastika, a Nazi insignia, on the bathroom floor made from toilet paper.
Last Sunday, more than 100 people had gathered at Vienna's Town Green in a show of unity and compassion for others.

There have been reports nationwide of swastika vandalism since the presidential election. Some civil rights groups attribute the escalation to white supremacists' groups celebrating the election of President-elect Donald J. Trump. Trump has disavowed them in a meeting with the New York Times.
WJLA-TV reported earlier this month that the SUV belonging to a Fairfax County woman, 74, in Franconia was defaced with a swastika scratched onto the hood of the vehicle. Other incidents were reported in Maryland, in Bethesda and Gaithersburg.

A nearby Dunkin' Donuts in Oakton was in the news earlier this year when an employee was fired after allegedly spraying cleaning solution on doughnuts.
The report about the swastika was part of the following summary, which contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from Nov. 18, 2016 – Nov. 22, 2016. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website.
