Vienna Resident Accidentally Runs Over Dog: Police

VIENNA, VA -- The following summary contains various incidents of general interest by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from October 28, 2016 – November 3, 2016. Readers are reminded that an “arrest” is based upon probable cause and does not always mean that someone was physically taken into custody. Furthermore, it does not mean that an individual is automatically guilty of a crime. Judicial outcomes and post-arrest proceedings can be researched through the appropriate court’s website. INCIDENTS
Animal Case – Quarantine 16-009124 Charles Circle, SW October 23 3:00 p.m. A resident accidently ran over his dog with his vehicle. The dog bit her owner on the hand as he tried to pick her up to transport her to The Hope Center for treatment. The dog did not survive the injuries she suffered in the accident. ACO Barker transported to the dog from The Hope Center to the Fairfax County Health Department for rabies testing.
Suspicious Event 16-009203: 400 Block Mill Street, SE October 27 12:00 p.m. A resident reported receiving threatening email.
Arrest – Driving While Intoxicated / Refusal / Eluding Police 16-009214 Maple Avenue, West at Center Street, South October 28 12:40 a.m. Ofc. Bulti observed a driver commit a series of traffic violations and initiated a traffic stop. The driver attempted to elude the officer, before the stop was affected. Upon his interaction with the driver he detected possible signs of impairment. After failing to complete a series of field
sobriety tests he arrested the 51 year old man from Vale Road in Oakton, Virginia for Driving While Intoxicated. Ofc. Bulti transported the man to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was offered the opportunity to provide a sample of his breath for analysis, however he refused to submit to the test. The man was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Refusal and Eluding Police. He was to be held on an unsecured bond until he was sober.
Illegal Dumping 16-009225 Cenan’s Bakery 122 Branch Road, SE Between October 26 9:00 a.m. and October 27 9:00 a.m. The owner advised someone had filled their new dumpster with debris without permission.
Police Service 16-009236 Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South October 28 3:43 p.m. A citizen came to the station to report on-going domestic assaults and threats she has received from her husband. It was determined the woman is a resident of Fairfax County where the assaults have occurred. An officer from Fairfax County Police responded to our station and will follow up on this case.
Found Property 16-009238 Kingsley Road and Frederick Street, SW October 28 5:45 p.m.
A citizen found a set of keys near the intersection. The keys will be held at the Vienna Police Station to be released to the owner.
Open Door 16-009274 Vienna Gas and Auto Care 410 Maple Avenue, East October 29 4:08 p.m.
Officers responding to the report of an alarm found the front door of the business unsecured. A check of the interior found nothing to be disturbed. An employee responded to the scene to secure the business.
Assist EMS 16-009276 Tapawingo Road and Glyndon Street, SE October 29 7:05 p.m.
A pedestrian was walking his dog in the intersection when he was struck by a bicyclist. The pedestrian was transported by rescue personnel to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police Service 16-009302 500 Block Stephen Circle, SW October 30 4:22 p.m. A citizen advised they were concerned for a friend after receiving a text message from him. Officers responded to the friend’s home and found he was not in need of immediate assistance. Information for various services was provided to the man should he decide to seek assistance at a later time.
Grand Larceny 16-009303 Giant Food 359 Maple Avenue, East October 30 between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. A citizen reported her iPhone was stolen while she was shopping in the store.
Domestic Assault 16-009316 Cedar Lane, SE October 30 8:00 p.m. A resident came to the Vienna Police Station to report that her husband had assaulted her the night before. There were no visible signs of injury. The resident was provided with information to obtain a warrant should she wish to pursue charges.
Arrest – Unlawful Entry and Drunk In Public 16-009309 200 Block Locust Street, SE October 30 11:16 p.m. A resident reported a man sleeping inside one of the storage units in the condo building. MPO
Smith located the man inside in the storage unit and arrested him on charges of Unlawful entry and Drunk in Public. The 33 year old man from Hillcrest Drive, SW in Vienna was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was to be held until he was sober.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation 16-009311 200 Block Maple Avenue, West October 31 12:34 a.m. Ofc. Reedy observed a vehicle with improper equipment and initiated a traffic stop. After his interaction with the driver he detected an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Ofc. Reedy located a measurable amount of marijuana in the vehicle. The 26 year old man from Ayr Hill Avenue, NE in Vienna was issued a summons charging Possession of Marijuana and released on his signature.
Open Door 16-009313 First Baptist Church 450 Orchard Street, NW
October 31 4:04 a.m. Officers responding to an alarm located an open door at the Church. The building was searched and nothing appeared to have been disturbed. Officers were then able to secure the door.
Civil Case 16-009321 1000 Block Moore Place, SW October 31 10:15 p.m. Two contractors were having a dispute over work that one had hired the other to do. One of the men advised the other man grabbed him by the shirt and physically removed him from the residence. Both parties were provided with information should they wish to pursue legal action against the other.
Found Property 16-009332 Maple Avenue and Park Street, SE October 31 3:00 p.m. A citizen turned in a set of keys that were found at the intersection. The keys will be held at the Vienna Police Station until an owner can be identified.
Civil Case 16-009335 James Madison Shell 545 Maple Avenue, West October 31 4:00 p.m. An employee advised that a customer accidently caused damage to the nozzle of one of the gas pumps while he was pumping gas. The customer provided his full information to the employee, but was unable to provide compensation at the time for the damage. The employee was directed to the Fairfax County Civil Court should he wish to pursue
compensation.
Petit Larceny 16-009342 100 Block Moore Avenue, SW October 31 between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. A resident reported two political signs being taken from his front yard.
Arrest – Simple Assault and Drunk In Public 16-009343 Jammin Java 227 Maple Avenue, East
October 31 10:57 p.m. Officers responded to the report of an assault that had just occurred. They located a man in the rear parking lot of Jammin Java who witnesses advised had assaulted another patron while they were in the establishment. Ofc. Hylinski arrested the 38 year old man from Charing Cross Road in Falls Church, Virginia for Simple Assault and Drunk In Public. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was held on a $3500 secured bond. The victim was treated at the scene by rescue personnel for the injuries he sustained during the assault.
Vandalism 16-009360 600 Block Center Street, South Between October 31 at 10:00 p.m. and November 1 at 6:30 a.m. A resident reported that someone had thrown eggs at her home during the night.
Illegal Dumping 16-009368 300 Block Charles Street, SE October 31 between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. A resident reported that someone dumped a large bag of stale donuts and bagels on his front lawn and on the hood of his vehicle.
Found Property 16-009361 400 Block Colin Lane, NW November 1 12:00 p.m. A resident found a set of keys on the roadway. The keys will be held at the Vienna Police Station until and owner is identified.
Suspicious Event 16-009369 Ryu & Ryu, PLC 301 Maple Avenue, West, Suite 620 November 1 5:30 p.m. An employee advised two juveniles entered their office soliciting donations for their organization. When the employee requested they leave the office and the juveniles became disorderly. Officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the juveniles.
Shoplifting 16-009389 Giant Food 359 Maple Avenue, East November 2 2:07 p.m. An employee reported two black males concealed items in shopping bags and attempted to leave the store without paying for the merchandise. When the men were confronted by the employee they quickly left the store without the items.
