What's Open, Closed On New Year's Day 2026 In Vienna

VIENNA, VA — Vienna residents will head into the new year starting with a holiday, prompting closures and schedule changes affecting government offices, schools, transit and other services.

Here are the openings and closures to know on Thursday, Jan. 1:

Town of Vienna government offices: Closed on Jan. 1.

Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Jan. 1.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Closed from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2.

ABC Stores: Virginia ABC stores will close at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Community centers: The Vienna Community Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 and closed on Jan. 1. Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services community centers, senior centers and teen centers will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be closed on Jan. 1.

Courts: Fairfax County courts are closed on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Department of Motor Vehicles: Virginia DMV locations will be closed on Jan. 1.

Fairfax Connector: Buses will run on a Sunday schedule. The only routes that operate on Sundays are: 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 559, 574, 605, 615, 622, 630, 642, 651, 662, 672, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5.

Libraries: Fairfax County Public Library locations close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and are closed on Jan. 1. Richard Byrd Library is closed until further notice.

Meadowlark Winter Walk of Lights: Open daily, including holidays, through Jan. 4.

Metro: Metro will have weekday service from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 and weekend late night service from 6 a.m. to midnight. Fares will be free from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Dec. 31.

Post offices: Closed on Jan. 1.

Recreation centers: Open from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Trash and recycling: Town of Vienna trash recyclings will not happen on Jan. 1. For Fairfax County collection customers, there are no trash collection changes on Jan. 1. If you have a private trash collector, check with them for any schedule changes. The I-66 Transfer Station and the I-95 Landfill Complex will close at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 and be closed on Jan. 1.
