Homicide Arrest Made In 2022 Killing Of Alexandria Resident

Alexandria Police have charged a suspect with murder after a victim was found dead on the sidewalk near residences.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A suspect has been arrested and charged in the 2022 killing of an Alexandria resident, Alexandria Police announced Tuesday.

Dontae LaShawn Drumgold, 28, of Prince Willian County, was charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The charges relate to the March 2022 homicide of Elijah Williams, 25, of Alexandria.

Around 6:50 a.m. on March 23, 2022, police had responded to a call about an unresponsive person in the bushes in the 4500 Block of Raleigh Avenue. Officers found Williams dead on the sidewalk near residences. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide due to upper body trauma.

This was the city's first homicide of 2022. Drumgold is being held without bond at the Alexandria jail.

Williams left behind a child, parents, two grandparents four siblings and other relatives, according to his obituary. An Indian high school graduate, Williams attended the Art Institute of Washington after high school and worked in security for Amazon and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority starting in 2021.
