Here are the top three stories today in West End Alexandria:
- The proposed medical campus in West End Alexandria, Inova at Landmark, is currently going through the public approval process. If it receives approval, construction is expected to be completed by Q2 of 2028. This project will occupy a fifth of the 52-acre WestEnd development and will consist of four buildings: a hospital center measuring 565,000 square feet, a cancer center measuring 111,000 square feet, a specialty care center measuring 83,000 square feet, and a renovation of the old 550-space parking garage in the mall. The Planning Commission will approve the project, after which the City Council will hold a public hearing on Saturday, Mar. 18. (Alexandria Now)
- Starting in April 2023, the Alexandria Police Department will implement the use of body-worn cameras in its interactions with the public to improve transparency and accountability. The deployment of these cameras will be done in phases, with the objective of providing all sworn personnel with cameras as part of their standard equipment within a year. This initiative is intended to bolster public confidence in law enforcement and encourage greater transparency in policing. (The Zebra)
- The View Alexandria, a senior living and healthcare services organization, has appointed Josh Bagley as its executive director. Prior to this, Bagley was serving as the interim executive director since Goodwin Living purchased the retirement community in August 2022. The View Alexandria is situated on a seven-acre campus in the West End of Alexandria and offers independent living, assisted living, and long-term nursing care to over 100 residents. (The Zebra)
