United Community Ministries Receives Grant

The Future Fund of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia is donating a total of $58,000 to three Virginia nonprofits.

The Future Fund of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia announced new grant recipients including Alexandria’s United Community Ministries.

The McLean-based fund is the foundation’s giving circle for more than 100 young professionals. It gave a total of $58,000 in grants and $18,000 to UCM.

The UCM grant will support the Journeys Program, which provides transitional housing for families displaced by domestic violence, including a full complement of supportive services to prepare participants for a future of independence and stability.

The application process opened last September to programs that help low and moderate-income individuals and families attain and remain in permanent affordable housing. The Future Fund Grants Committee reviewed 18 applications, conducted site visits to eight the semi-finalists, and narrowed the applications down to five finalists on which the entire Future Fund membership was invited to vote.

The other recipients, both based in Virginia, were Homestretch of Falls Church and Transitional Housing BARN of Bristow.
